Long term doxorubicin cardiotoxicity in childhood: non-invasive evaluation of the contractile state and diastolic filling.

چکیده
Cardiac performance was evaluated at least two years after doxorubicin treatment in childhood in 55 patients without overt congestive cardiomyopathy. None of the patients had received mediastinal irradiation. Computer-assisted analysis of digitised echocardiograms showed impaired rapid diastolic filling and an increased change of dimension between minimal cavity dimension and mitral valve opening. This impairment of diastolic function was related to the cumulative dose of doxorubicin. In contrast when angiotensin II was infused to increase the afterload the end systolic pressure-length and stress-shortening relation indicated normal left ventricular systolic function. But during baseline conditions the end systolic wall stress was significantly increased in patients in whom the cumulative dose of doxorubicin exceeded 360 mg/m2.

A journey in anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity with emphasizing on doxorubicin: a review article
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States and has become a health problem worldwide. The reported incidence of new cancer cases is estimated at 19.3 million, with a mortality rate of 10 million in the world in 2020. There are several therapeutic approaches for cancer, including chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is consuming anti-neoplastic drugs, alone or in combination. However...

متن کاملThe utility of NT-proBNP and various echocardiographic methods in the determination of doxorubicin induced subclinical late cardiotoxicity.
BACKGROUND AND AIM Our aims were to investigate the utility of plasma N terminal-pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level and find the most beneficial echocardiographic parameters to detect subclinical cardiotoxicity in childhood- cancer survivors treated with doxorubicin. METHODS The study included 23 patients with a mean age of 17.1 years, who had received doxorubicin therapy with a...
متن کاملAge-Related Changes in Doxorubicin-Induced Oxidative Damage: Protective and Pretreatment Effects of Short-Term Aerobic Exercise
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Doxorubicin (DOX) is an effective anticancer drug. It has been shown that a short-term exercise performed prior to DOX-treatment has no effect on cardiotoxicity in young rats. In the present study, old and young rats were evaluated to determine the protective effects of pre-treatment with short-term exercise on D...
متن کاملProtective Effects of Lycopene and Tomato Extract Against Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiotoxicity
The protective effect of tomato extract and lycopene on acute doxorubicin-induced myocardial toxicity was evaluated in mice. Doxorubicin toxicity, induced by a single intraperitoneal injection (15 mg/kg), was revealed by elevated serum CPKMB and histopathological observations. Tomato extract (1.2 and 2.4 g/kg, i.p.) and lycopene (1.7 and 3.5 mg/kg, i.p.), prevented the rise in serum CPKM...
